The anti-smuggling operatives of the Ogun 1 Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Idiroko Border on Thursday said they had intercepted contraband, which included locally fabricated riffles, 198 pieces of live Cartridges, hard drugs, foreign parboiled bags of rice, as well as 11, 825 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly referred to as petrol, among others, in the month of January, 2026.
The NCS Ag. Area Comptroller of the Command, Comptroller Oladapo Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the command’s activities since December, when he assumed duty as the Ag. Area Comptroller of the Command.
Afeni, who disclosed that the Duty Payable Value (DPV) of the contraband stood at over N721 Million, listed other items to include: 1, 042 bags of foreign parboiled rice, each weighing 50kg; 3, 738 parcels of cannabis sativa; 780 units of used pneumatic tyres, as well as 4 sacks containing 25kg of Caffeine Anhydrous drugs among other.
He explained that the command made the seizures through intelligence-driven operations and the unwavering dedication of its anti-smuggling personnel.
Speaking further at the event, Afeni explained that the recent seizure added to a total of 487 illicit items, with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4, 130,931,100 Billion earlier intercepted from various locations of the state in the year 2025 by his command.
Afeni further stated that the command also generated and remitted the total sum of N454, 672, 406: 30 to the federation and non-federation accounts of the federal government, respectively.
“This clearly showed that the revenue profile of the command has significantly increased by about 47 per cent when compared with the collection of N275,835,602.00 in 2024”.
He, however, reiterated the command’s commitment to surpass its 2025 revenue performance, noting that it had already begun 2026 on a strong footing, as reflected in collections recorded between Jan. 1 and Jan. 28, 2026.
Afeni said that in line with extant laws and trade guidelines, the command had strengthened its anti-smuggling operations through credible intelligence and sustained collaboration with relevant agencies to enforce government fiscal policies and curb economic sabotage along the borders.
