Customs Rakes N93 Million In 6 Months

The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has said it intercepted 37 trailers of foreign parboiled rice without payment of the necessary duties in different locations within the state between January and June, this year.

The Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde also disclosed yesterday that the sum of N93, 301, 000, 000: 130 has been generated from import duties, auctions of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and sales of scrapped vehicles intercepted from smugglers in the  period under review.

Makinde made these disclosures  while briefing newsmen about activities and achievements of his command in the areas of revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and Trade facilitation in the first half of the year 2023 in Idiroko Border in Ipokia local government area of the state.

He explained that the 37 trailers load of foreign parboiled rice, as well as other contrabands intercepted, which cumulative Duty Payable Value (DPV) worth N1, 313, 628, 488: 00 were recorded from the 392 seizures carried out by operatives of his command between the period under review.

Makinde further stated that five exotic luxury buses that were allegedly smuggled into the country through the Ohumbe land border were also impounded by operatives of the command.

He added that the revenue generated was an increase of 310 percent compared to last year’s N29,940 million revenue made within the same period in 2022.
