There appears to be confusion within the ranks of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, as two of its governorship aspirants, Dr. Fara Dagogo and Hon. Gabriel Pidomson, are claiming to have won the party’s ticket.

No fewer than eight governorship aspirants participated in the primary election, which was held across the state last Friday.

While Dagogo, a former member of the House of Representatives, announced shortly after the primary election that he had emerged as the party’s governorship candidate, the ADC leadership in the state insisted that the collation of results had yet to be concluded.

However, on Saturday night, the party announced that Pidomson had emerged as its governorship candidate, with Dagogo and another former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Sokonte Davies, trailing behind.

LEADERSHIP observed that Dagogo was declared winner of the primary election by Dr. Agu Bryan, who claimed to be chairman of the ADC Rivers State Governorship Primary Electoral Committee, while Pidomson was declared winner by Carol Okaro, who also claimed to be chairman of the ADC Rivers State Governorship Primary Electoral Committee.

Meanwhile, an ADC governorship aspirant, Dr. Sokonte Davies, has congratulated Dagogo on his emergence as the governorship candidate of the party.

Davies, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, also declared support for the presidential ambition of a chieftain of the party and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

He stated that Dagogo’s victory at the primaries is a testament to the trust and confidence reposed in him by the delegates of the leading opposition political party in the country.

“Dr. Dagogo’s victory at the primaries is a testament to the trust and confidence reposed in him by the delegates of our great party. We commend his perseverance, commitment to the ideals of the ADC, and his readiness to serve the people of Rivers State.

“As members of the same political family, we recognise that the task ahead is a collective one, and we stand ready to work together for the success of the party in the 2027 general elections.

“We believe that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar possesses the experience, vision, and national stature required to steer Nigeria out of its current challenges and set the country on the path of economic recovery, security, and inclusive growth. His leadership offers the unity and stability Nigeria urgently needs at this time.

“We call on all ADC members, stakeholders, and lovers of democracy across Rivers State and Nigeria to rally behind these candidacies for the good of our people and the future of our nation,” Davies said.
