Renowned Islamic scholar in Africa, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has expressed profound gratitude to the president of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for granting full scholarships to 140 Nigerian students to study in various Algerian universities.

The scholarships, which cover tuition and living expenses, were approved following a special request made by the Sheikh Dahiru through his foundation ‘Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation’.
In a letter of appreciation personally signed by himself and made available to journalists in Bauchi yesterday, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi lauded President Tebboune’s generosity and vision, describing the gesture as a reaffirmation of Algeria’s enduring commitment to knowledge, unity, and moral leadership.

“Your Excellency, I wish to express my deep gratitude for your government’s generous decision to open Algeria’s universities to one hundred and forty Tijaniyya students from Nigeria,” he wrote.

Sheikh Dahiru added that, “This act is more than an educational gesture; it is a reaffirmation of the ideals that built Algeria’s reputation that knowledge shared in sincerity becomes a bridge between peoples and a force for good in the world.”

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi further praised Algeria’s historical role as a beacon of integrity and wisdom in Africa, noting that its influence stems from its fidelity to knowledge, justice, and faith rather than material power.

“For many decades, Algeria has stood as a moral compass on our continent, a nation whose strength flows not from wealth or might, but from its fidelity to knowledge, justice, and faith,” he added.

The scholar also reflected on Algeria’s deep spiritual connection to the Tijaniyya order, founded by Sidi Ahmad al-Tijani, whose teachings continue to unite Muslims across Africa.

He prayed for the continued peace, progress, and divine blessings upon Algeria and its leadership, “May Allah, in His infinite mercy, continue to bless your stewardship, preserve Algeria in peace and progress, and make her always a source of light for humanity.”

LEADERSHIP earlier reported that the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation has enrolled 117 Nigerian students to Algeria to pursue programmes in various fields, including medicine, engineering and other critical areas of education.

The director of education of the Foundation, Gwani Aliyu Dahiru Bauchi, disclosed that a total of 140 students were awarded scholarships under the scheme, with 117 having already concluded all arrangements to depart for Algeria, while the remaining 23 will travel once they complete the necessary requirements.

According to him, the beneficiaries were drawn from Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa, and other states across the country.

This marks the second batch of Nigerian students to benefit from Algerian scholarships facilitated by Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. The first set of beneficiaries are reportedly nearing the completion of their studies in Algerian institutions.
