Danfodiyo Varsity To Graduate 22,934 At Combined Convocation

Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, UDUS, will graduate 22,932 students of which,167 will receive first class at a combined convocation grand finale slated for Saturday.

The national security adviser to the president, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, will also deliver the convocation lecture at the combined 38th, 39th, 40th and 41st convocation ceremony of the school on the topic “Navigation the Maze; Addressing Multi-Dimensional Insecurity Challenges in Northern Nigeria” on Thursday, as part of activities line up for the ceremony.

The university’s vice chancellor, Professor Lawal Bilbis, told newsmen at the Senate building that as part of the convocation, 167 students will receive first class honours out of the total number of 22,932 students graduating from the school.

“In this convocation, we would be presenting a total of 22,932 graduating students, out of which, 18,644 will receive various Bachelor’s degrees, diplomas and certificates.

“Of this number, 18,217 will receive Bachelor’s Degrees and 427 will receive Diplomas and Certificates.

“Similarly, the remaining 4,288 graduating students will receive various certificates of higher degrees and Postgraduate diplomas. Of this number, 296 will receive Doctoral degrees, 1,322 will receive Masters Degrees while 2,670 will receive Post Graduate Diplomas in their relevant programmes.”

The vice chancellor said, “in addition, students will receive various prizes for their excellent and outstanding performance in their chosen disciplines.

“It is also gratifying to note that 167 students graduated with First Class, 3,486 graduated with  Second class upper, 9,573 graduated with second class-lower and 15 others graduated with a pass degree in their programs.

“The remaining 1,199 students are from programmes such as Veterinary Medicine, MBBS, Nursing among others whose degrees are not classified.”

He said the university is processing awards of honorary degrees to some personalities and professor emeritus and, when the process is completed, a press statement will be issued to that effect.
