As anticipation builds for the 6th annual Sportsville Special Recognition Award, prominent sports figures across Nigeria continue to send their well wishes.
Respected media personality, Dr Danladi Bako OON, has lauded the upcoming ceremony in a letter to the organisers, hailing it as “the most authentic” sports award in the nation’s history.
In his letter, dated 26th March 2026, Bako, who holds the traditional title of Kogunan Sokoto and is a former Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), expressed his “unbridled joy and untainted commitment to Sports in Nigeria” for the “unique event.”
Having been a recipient himself some years ago, Dr Bako noted, “I have studiously followed the tremendous growth of what has now become the most authentic Sports Award in the country today.”
He extended his congratulations to all recipients, singling out Mr Kwame Arthur, whose “passion, commitment, endurance, and inspirational mentorship” he has personally witnessed.
Regarding the “Transformative Impact Award” for Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Dr Bako stated it was “both befitting as well as a challenge to bring his wealth of experience to geometrically elevate the fortunes of Nigerian sports as speedily as possible.”
He concluded by felicitating with Frank Ilaboya, CEO of Sportsville, and his team, urging them to continue making “mentors, sports lovers, and our colleagues in journalism proud.”
Dr Bako’s extensive career also includes serving as chairman of the Sokoto State Football Association and Special Adviser to the Sports Minister (1995-1988).
His commendation follows that of Dr Godwin Ehigiamusoe, CEO of LAPO Microfinance Bank, who last Friday also praised the organisers for their distinctive approach.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for 3rd April at the Lagos Country Club, promising to be a prestigious gathering of Nigeria’s top sports professionals.
