Former director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, has formally declared his intention to contest the Katsina State governorship election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Daura made the declaration during a youth sensitisation and mobilisation enlightenment programme held in the Katsina State capital.
He explained that the time had come for him to publicly announce the political platform through which he would pursue his ambition for governorship.
Addressing party members and supporters at the event, Daura urged ADC loyalists to remain united, disciplined, and respectful to one another and to their leaders.
He expressed optimism that with unity and commitment, the party would continue to grow stronger and reclaim its lost glory in the state.
Earlier in his remarks, a party chieftain, Dr Mustapha Inuwa, charged ADC members to prioritise unity and shun fear and greed, stressing that these values were essential for actualising the party’s goals at both state and national levels.
Dr Inuwa also criticised the ruling party, accusing it of weakening farmers’ economic strength through policies that encourage food imports despite the rising cost of agricultural inputs.
He described the government as insensitive to the plight of ordinary citizens, particularly rural farmers.
To illustrate the hardship faced by farmers, Inuwa noted that the proceeds from selling five tiyas of maize could only afford a bottle of palm oil, adding that a farmer would need to sell about 50 bags of maize to raise N1 million.
According to him, this situation reflects a severe decline in farmers’ purchasing power.
He further disclosed that 71 members had recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC.
In addition, he claimed that the entire structure of the Labour Party in the area was in the process of decamping to the ADC, a development he said would significantly strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
The event ended with renewed calls for grassroots mobilisation and sustained engagement with youths as the ADC intensifies its political activities across Katsina State.
