Kano State governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has vowed to sign the death warrant of anyone found guilty in the gruesome killing of a Kano housewife and her six children in Chiranci Dorayi, insisting that justice must be served to deter future crimes.
The governor made the declaration on Wednesday during a condolence visit to the bereaved family.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, Governor Yusuf directed the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to fast-track the prosecution of suspects already arrested in connection with the killings, stressing that the government would pursue the case to its logical conclusion.
“I assure the people of Kano that once the courts convict those responsible, I will not hesitate to sign their death warrants,” the governor said, adding that the same resolve would apply to other high-profile murder cases, including the killing of Hanifa and the Gezawa arson incident, once convictions are secured.
Beyond justice, Governor Yusuf announced a comprehensive welfare package for the bereaved father, including sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, provision of a new house, and full welfare support to help him rebuild his life. The governor also pledged government assistance should the man choose to remarry.
While commending the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies, Yusuf praised their swift response and collaboration, which led to the arrest of the suspects.
The governor prayed for the repose of the deceased’s souls and urged residents to remain calm as the law takes its course.
In appreciation, the bereaved father donated his personal house to the Kano State Government for the construction of an Islamiyya school to serve the community.
