Dayo Israel: A Risk to Tinubu’s Return to Aso Rock

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, young voters are expected to remain an important constituency for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Economic hardship, unemployment and rising living costs are among the issues shaping public debate, making youth engagement an important consideration for the party.

Against this backdrop, recent public discussions surrounding APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel have drawn attention to the party’s youth mobilisation strategy and its efforts to maintain support among young Nigerians.

Israel occupies a prominent position within the party’s youth structure. His public engagements and mobilisation activities form part of the APC’s broader efforts to connect with younger voters ahead of the next election.

One issue that generated public discussion was the reported presentation of seven Toyota Land Cruiser Prado sport utility vehicles to selected APC youth mobilisers. The announcement prompted debate about political priorities and how the party communicates with Nigerians facing economic difficulties.

The vehicles became a subject of public interest because of their perceived value and the economic circumstances of many citizens. The discussion has raised questions about how political parties can balance mobilisation activities with the need to demonstrate sensitivity to the financial pressures confronting ordinary Nigerians.

The debate also highlights the importance of explaining the purpose and funding of political mobilisation initiatives. Clear communication can help the public understand how such programmes fit into a party’s broader organisational and electoral plans.

Beyond the vehicles, disagreements have reportedly emerged within the APC’s youth structure. Reports that the Forum of APC State Youth Leaders expressed dissatisfaction with Israel’s leadership have drawn attention to questions of representation, consultation and coordination within the party.

However, other youth groups have publicly expressed support for Israel, suggesting that opinions about his leadership differ within the party.

The developments underline the importance of maintaining communication between national party officials and state-level youth representatives. These structures often serve as links between party leadership and grassroots supporters, particularly during election campaigns.

For the APC, effective youth mobilisation will require more than political rallies and social media engagement. It will also depend on sustained grassroots relationships, clear communication and an understanding of the concerns shaping young Nigerians’ political choices.
