Nigerian music icon Dbanj turned heads at his star-studded birthday soiree on Victoria Island on Thursday when he surprised skit maker Carter Efe, along with collaborators Berri Tiga and Trinity, with a brand-new car.

The moment, captured on video, showed an elated Carter Efe jumping for joy. But not everyone was celebrating.

The generous gesture quickly drew fire online, with critics arguing the money would have been better spent on the less privileged. “The needy or SOS Homes — donating to them won’t be a bad idea,” one user wrote. Others called it “misplaced priorities.”

Some took a more sardonic angle. “Shey Carter Efe use jazz for una,” one commenter quipped, referencing the skit maker’s apparent knack for attracting high-profile gifts.

The car comes just a month after Carter Efe’s own headline moment, which was the unveiling of a new mansion, which he credited partly to music star Davido.
