Following the disclosure of Kaduna State’s debt profile by Governor Uba Sani at a Town Hall Meeting in Kaduna last weekend, a former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has called for a constitution of an investigative panel to probe the immediate-past Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his his appointees.

The former Kaduna Central Senator said it was important El-Rufai, his appointees and contractors account for the ‘millions in Dollars and Billions in Naira that were misused or outrightly stolen, including the $350million loan’ granted to the State under his administration.

LEADERSHIP reports that Governor Uba Sani had told stakeholders in the state at a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday that his administration inherited a huge debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the previous administration under El-Rufai, making it difficult for him to pay wokers’ salaries.

The disclosure is causing disquiet in the State with supporters of both Governor Sani and his predecessor El-Rufai castigating their principals.

However, reacting to the development via his X handle (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Senator Shehu Sani said the ‘looting of Kaduna State’ cannot be remedied by mere revelations of the debt profile of the State, hence Governor Sani needed to be courageous to go after those who presided over the affairs of the State in the past

Senator Sani wrote: “The looting of Kaduna State cannot be remedied by revelations alone; but by Courageously constituting a probe panel headed by an independent professional Accountant or Auditor who will invite and investigate ex Government officials and their proxy Contractors to account for the millions in Dollars and Billions in Naira that were misused or outrightly stolen, including the $350million loan.

“Kaduna State is at its hour of reckoning with the truth I foretold and the truth for which I was vilified.”
