The Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission (DSSC), Mr Onoriode Oborevwori, said the move is to reaffirm Delta’s status as Nigeria’s sports powerhouse.

While he would serve as LOC chairman, with former Commissioner for Sports, Chief Solomon Ogba, appointed as Adviser.

He said the LOC has been charged with organising and hosting a successful 9th National Youth Games, which will officially come with the arrival of contingents from across the country in Asaba.

“The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to staging an event that will showcase Delta’s proven capacity for sports excellence and its leadership in grassroots talent development”

“Delta is no stranger to hosting major national sports events. From the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships to the 21st National Sports Festival in 2022, the state has consistently delivered top-tier facilities, flawless organisation, and memorable competitions, earning it a reputation as the go-to destination for major sporting showpieces in Nigeria,” Oborevwori said.

Former Super Eagles defender and current board member of the Sports Commission, Mr. Sam Sodje, is also on the team, alongside fellow board members Mr. Oghale Ofremu and Miss Henrietta Ehiabor.

Others include the immediate past director-general of the Sports Commission, Mr Festus Ohwojero and Mr. Paul Omamomo-Ojo as members, while the director-general of the Sports Commission, Emuobo Igalase, will serve as secretary.
