A coalition of old members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Delta North Senatorial District has called for the cancellation of the recently conducted ward congresses in the zone, citing widespread irregularities and deliberate exclusion from the exercise.
In a press statement issued on Friday and signed by the convener, Chief Alex Ikpeaz; the acting secretary-general, Ken Chad Rafua and Prince Iyke Mordi, the group alleged that long-standing party members were sidelined during the consensus arrangements that produced parallel executives across the zone.
They claimed that since the defection of the state governor to the party, original stakeholders have been unfairly pushed aside.
The coalition also condemned the violence that erupted during the congresses, describing it as unacceptable and detrimental to the unity of the party in Delta State.
They appealed to Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the party to urgently intervene in what they described as a deliberate attempt to force them out of the political structure they laboured for years to build.
According to the statement, some members paid for nomination forms for the forthcoming state chairmanship election scheduled for March 3, but were denied the forms despite full payment.
