A group, the Conscience of Ogoni People (COOP), has appealed to the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to spare no efforts in combing the entire nooks and crannies of the country, and Rivers State in particular, to rid it of all criminal elements.

COOP, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday by its leader, Chief Gani Topba, expressed joy over the appointment of Disu, who had served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.

Describing the Acting AIG as bold, fearless, competent and very professional, the group thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing him.

The statement read, “The Conscience of Ogoni People (COOP), formerly known as Ken Saro Wiwa Associates, received with overwhelming joy and gratitude to the Almighty God and to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the news of the appointment of Olatunji Rilwan Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

“Acting IGP Disu is a ranking Police officer, the COOP has come to know and work with for a long stretch of his policing career. The COOP can attest that he is bold, fearless, competent and very professional in the handling of all his assignments.

“Disu’s appointment did not come to the COOP as a surprise, having followed his track records of professional service in the Nigeria Police Force, during which career he earned a sterling reputation as one of Nigeria’s finest contemporary officers.

“Until his elevation to the enviable post of Inspector-General of Police, Disu was the former Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

“As he settles down in his new role, we, in the COOP have an unwavering conviction that the criminal elements and their sponsors, who are holding the entire country to ransom, will have no hiding place no matter how highly placed.

“We therefore, implore our own Acting IGP Disu to spare no efforts in combing the entire nooks and crannies of the country, and in particular, Rivers State, to rid it of all criminal elements.”
