Memphis Depay has agreed to significantly lower his wage demands to sign a new contract with Corinthians, club president Osmar Stabile confirmed Monday, days after the Brazilian side had walked back a previous extension offer.
The 32-year-old former Manchester United forward had publicly criticized the club’s “unacceptable behavior” last week after Corinthians revoked a previously agreed two-year extension on his 2024 deal. However, Stabile said a personal meeting with the Dutch international resolved the impasse.
“Everything’s fine but it was hard work,” Stabile told reporters. “He managed to reduce numbers that his team couldn’t achieve. We did what was best for Corinthians, especially in financial terms.”
The new agreement runs through 2028. Corinthians, currently ninth in Brazil’s Serie A, had initially opted against renewing Depay over financial concerns.
The forward has scored 20 goals in 79 appearances for the club, helping them win the 2025 Copa do Brasil and this year’s Supercopa do Brasil.
