The Nigeria senior judo team received a significant morale boost on Monday with a visit from the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade. The visit comes as the team intensifies preparations for the upcoming Africa Senior Judo Championship in Kenya.
Mr Olopade and his delegation observed the players in training, reassuring them of the government’s unwavering support as they ready themselves to represent the nation in Nairobi later this month.
The Director General reiterated the Sports Commission’s commitment to ensuring the team has every resource necessary for adequate preparation for the tournament.
“I salute your dedication and commitment, but at the same time, I also want to urge you all to remain disciplined at all times and put in the hard work to achieve a successful outing in Kenya.”
He also conveyed greetings from the Commission’s Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, who is equally keen to see judo reach its full potential with sufficient backing.
“I understand that this year’s tournament in Kenya is also a pathway to the Olympic qualifiers, which attests to the seriousness the Commission has attached to your camping and preparations.”
Mr Olopade assured the team that all their requests had been approved, emphasising that their sole focus should be on making the country proud through their performance and conduct.
Team captain Kehinde Aremu expressed gratitude for the Director General’s visit, stating that it had further ignited their determination to succeed.
The visit concluded with Mr Olopade personally distributing cash to the judokas, leaving them in high spirits.
The Africa Senior Judo Championship is scheduled to take place from 20th to 29th April in Nairobi, Kenya.
