Diaspora Banking emerged champions of the Ikoyi Club 1938 Team Tennis Tournament after defeating Prestige Banking 11-2 in the final played on Friday night.
The decisive tie featured two singles and three doubles matches, with Diaspora Banking dominating the contest to claim the title.
The only victory recorded by Prestige Banking came in the singles, where Remi Amao defeated Ifoghale Gbodume 1-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Chairman of the Tennis Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Victor Onyenkpa, described the tournament as a keenly contested competition, saying the standard of play improved throughout the week.
“This year’s tournament has been the best so far for us. We are delighted that there was keen competition from the first day until the final,” Onyenkpa said.
He also acknowledged Zenith Bank’s support for the tournament, noting that the bank had partnered with the club on the event over several years.
A total of 64 players, divided into eight teams, competed in the week-long tournament.
Onyenkpa said the Tennis Section would continue to organise competitions for its members, with further events expected later in the year.
