The Dutsen Tanshi Majlis Foundation Bauchi, a group of disciplines of imprisoned popular Islamic cleric, Dr Idris Abdul’aziz Dutsen Tanshi has distanced itself from the purported notice given to the state government to release the cleric to avoid taking laws into their hands.

Our correspondent reports that posters were posted in some places in Bauchi, warning the government to release the cleric.

But the group in a statement signed by its leader, Malam Yau noted that the said posters being pasted at various locations within Bauchi metropolitan city did not emanate from it.

The disciplines said as law abiding citizens, they will not in any way take laws into their hands nor temper with the ongoing court order against their leader.

The statement read, “This is to notify the Muslim Ummah especially the authorities concerned, that it is only the above named committee that has the mandate to release any statement or stand on the ongoing legal case against our teacher, Imam Dr Idris Abdul’aziz Dutsen Tanshi, Bauchi.

“This is an emergency message to berate the students of Malam from some messages perpetrated by some unknown persons threatening that if Dr. Imam Idris is not released immediately, they will take laws in to their hands.

“So, we reiterate that this is not from us and we have no knowledge of it.

“We are calling on all Muslims that follow the teachings of Qur’an and Hadith and the righteous path to continue to be law abiding, as efforts are ongoing to ensure the matter is settled in a legal way.”

LEADERSHIP reports that a High Court of Islamic Law No. 1, in Bauchi sent the cleric to prison for ‘contempt of court’ until one month later.

The judge, Malam Hussaini Turaki remanded the Islamic cleric to the state’s correctional facility.
