There is disquiet on the campus of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State over the disappearance of two of their students.
The missing students are Andrel Eloho Okah from the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Arts, and John Friday Abba from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Agriculture. Both are second-year (200L) undergraduates.
According to one of their colleagues, who identified himself as Ajibola, their whereabouts have been unknown for over two weeks, causing concerns among their peers.
Ajibola told journalists on Tuesday that the two students have not attended classes or participated in academic activities for several weeks. Attempts to reach them by phone have been unsuccessful.
He said, “They have been missing from school and academic activities for over two weeks. We have searched everywhere but cannot find them.
We are worried about their safety.
“We don’t know if they were kidnapped or if something else happened. They are very close friends. Our efforts to contact them by phone have failed repeatedly, and their sudden disappearance is alarming.
“We have reported the matter to the school management and the police, but we have not received the help we need. The authorities have only told us to remain calm and suggested they might have gone on vacation. However, the student community is worried and agitated,” Ajibola said.
LEADERSHIP learnt that the families of the missing students are making frantic efforts to look for them and have reported the case to law enforcement agencies.
When contacted, Mr. Victor Akinpelu, Head of Information, Protocol, and Public Relations at AAUA, declined to comment.
However, an anonymous source within the university revealed that the management is at the top of the situation. The source said, “The university is aware of the case, but many suspicious activities involve some students on campus. We are working with the police to uncover why it happened, especially since their classmates are suspicious about their disappearance.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the case is under investigation. He said, “The case is under investigation. That is all I can say for now.”
