‘Do Not Sit’: The Laminated Paper Sign

We had finished shopping and needed a place to sit temporarily before going into the other shops. We were so relieved to find chairs, but guess what?? It was those belonging to one of the restaurants in the public part of the mall. The huge paper sign on the table said do not sit unless you place an order’.

Upset I told Farida we should leave but Farida sat down anyway expecting the worst. You know how she can be and so I joined her. As if on cue a waiter comes by to ask for what we want to order. “Nothing, we are just resting our feet,” Farida responded tiredly.

The waiter’s countenance changed dramatically towards us. “Ma, you can’t sit here and not order anything.”
