Dombraye Takes Charge As Gombe United Begin NNL Rebuild

Gombe United have turned to experienced tactician Eddy Lord Dombraye to steer the club through the upcoming Nigeria National League season, appointing the former Lobi Stars handler as their new technical adviser.

The Savannah Scorpions announced a sweeping reshuffle of their technical crew on Thursday, also confirming Muniru Abdul-Azeez as Chief Coach and Abdullahi Abubakar as Match Analyst.
The trio will immediately integrate with the existing backroom staff to spearhead preparations for the 2026–27 campaign, which kicks off on Saturday, October 31.

Dombraye, who boasts prior managerial stints in the NPFL with Lobi Stars and a spell at Ukrainian side Arsenal Kiev, brings a wealth of top-flight know-how to the second‑division outfit.

His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the Gombe-based club to inject tactical discipline and winning mentality into a squad that narrowly missed promotion last term.

Speaking on the new hires, club officials expressed confidence that the combined experience of Dombraye and Abdul-Azeez would provide the right blend of strategy and on‑field execution, while Abubakar’s analytical role is expected to enhance match‑day decision‑making through data‑driven insights.

Gombe United will open their league campaign with a home fixture against Jigawa Golden Stars, and Dombraye is already expected to oversee final training drills as the team aims to hit the ground running in what promises to be a fiercely competitive NNL season.
