Popular search engine, Google, has referred to the embattled Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as ‘former governor’ apparently following the judgement of the State Election Petitions Tribunal, which instead returned his closest challenger and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Nasir Gawuna, as the actual winner of the March 18 election.
While a popular online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, recognised Abba Kabir Yusuf as the incumbent governor of Kano State, a google search of his name, however, says he is the former governor.
LEADERSHIP reports that both Yusuf and his party, New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), had already approached the Appeal Court to challenge the Tribunal judgement. By implication, Yusuf remains the governor of Kano State until the final arbitration of the case at the highest court in the land, according to the Nigerian legal system.
In a twist of events and despite recognising Yusuf as the incumbent Kano State governor, the same Wikipedia on Gawuna’s page, apparently trying to give effect to the consequential judgement of the Tribunal, writes: “He is currently the Governor-elect of Kano state, following the sack of the incumbent governor by the Kano state gubernatorial election tribunal on 20 September 2023.”
