Ezza South local government area has attributed the delay in the payment of teachers’ salaries to the ongoing processes at the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB).

It insisted that the delay was not a failure on the part of the local government administration.

A statement signed by the public relations officer of the council, Mrs Ezeh Christiana Obiageli, explained that the local government had fulfilled its part of the process and ensured that the funds were available for payment.

Ezeh maintained that the council decided to put the record straight and to clear the misinformation circulating adding that the delay in the payment of teachers’ salaries was never the fault of the council.

The council assured all affected educators and the public that its financial obligations have been met and timely noting that the present administration is committed to the welfare of the teachers and the entire workforce of the local government.

“The Ezza South local government area successfully released the funds for the outstanding teachers’ salaries on November 17, 2025. This remittance was made to the appropriate body responsible for the final disbursement.

“We understand the difficulties and inconveniences that any salary delay causes our dedicated teachers, especially during these challenging times.

We want to make it unequivocally clear that Ezza South Local Government has done its part. The issue now lies with the Universal Basic Education Board’s processing system.

“The welfare of our teachers remains our top priority. The Chairman of Local Government have mandated UBEB to release Ezza South Teacher’s salaries with immediate effect. We want to also urge all affected teachers to remain calm and patient as efforts are being intensified to resolve the situation,” the council said.

It would be recalled that local government teachers under the supervision of the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) last week staged a peaceful protest in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital over the inability of the various council chairmen in the state to effect the payment of their salaries and other approved welfare packages.

The protesters, under the umbrella of Concerned Local Government Teachers had appealed to the State Governor, Francis Nwifuru to intervene and ensure that their salaries and other welfare packages are attended to and their entitlement given to them just like their counterpart in the Secondary Education Board, SEB.
