Ebonyi State security consultant, Mr. Stanley Emegha, yesterday said some three gunmen operating on a motorcycle at about 8pm opened fire on operatives of EbubeAgu Security Network.

Emegha who made the disclosure to our correspondent said the incident happened at the checkpoint along the Hausa Quarters axis of the Abakaliki-Afikpo Express Road Abakaliki, the state capital.

Emegha who is also the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) expressed regrets over the attack and noted that despite the incessant attacks, the security outfit was always on top of the situation to ensure that hoodlums did not take over the state.

He maintained that there were lots of challenges associated with insecurity and called on the people to support the state government by offering useful information that would help in apprehending criminals and other criminal elements in the state.

Emegha noted that the men of the EbubeAgu Security Network were there on their routine surveillance and check adding that with the different point of checks within and outside the state capital, the state had remained one of the safest in the country.

The expert warned criminals in the state to change from their evil ways adding that the state government would not relent until crime and criminality were brought to its barest minimum in the state.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness and a resident of the area who spoke with our correspondent on grounds of anonymity said that the gunmen stormed the checkpoint with arms and immediately started shooting sporadically in the direction of the operatives.
