Deputy chief whip of the Senate who represents Ebonyi North senatorial district, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has handed 79 bungalows over to widows and indigent residents in the three local government areas of the senatorial district.

Nwebonyi made the disclosure during the disbursement of N40 million scholarship funds to indigent students of the district at the Mbeke Isheke in Ebonyi local government area of the state.
He said the construction of the houses was aimed at providing shelter to the widows and the indigent, adding that many of the beneficiaries were living in houses that were not befitting.

The lawmaker said more houses would be constructed for other widows, pointing out that with a conducive environment, the lives of the widows and the indigent would be prolonged.
The Senate chief whip said 200 indigent students from the senatorial zone benefitted from the N40 million, adding that he invested in the indigent students to check school dropouts in the senatorial zone.
He urged the students to use the money for the purpose it was meant and not divert it because “doing so is diverting their future.”

“About 200 students today got their school fees. Those doing LLB law got N150,000 each, those doing medicine also got N150,000 each, those in postgraduate studies got N200.000.

Presenting the cheques to the students, Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru commended Nwebonyi for effective representation and called on leaders at all levels to emulate his charitable dispositions.
