Ebonyi State Government, in collaboration with the Ivo local government area of the State, have concluded plans to set up different security posts in the local government to curb the Incessant killings, kidnappings and other criminal activities within the local government area.
The chief security officer (CSO) to the State Governor, CSP John Nwede, and the chairman of the Ivo Local Government Council, Chief Ajah Emmanuel, made the disclosure when they visited several strategic locations to establish new security posts in the area.
There have been incessant killings, kidnappings, communal disturbances and other restive activities within the local government area in the last two years, which has resulted in the deaths of several persons in the area.
The state government and the local government area have set up local vigilante outfits to curb the menace, but the activities of the hoodlums and youths of the area have remained unabated as killings have continued to go on in the area.
CSP Nwede expressed dissatisfaction with the recent attacks on various communities in the state, especially the Ivo local government area, by some criminal elements, adding that the situation has become a source of concern and worry to the state government.
“Governor Nwifuru is so committed to resolving all issues in the different communities in the state and to restore peace and promote development in our communities,” he said.
He extended the governor’s condolences to all affected families and pledged that the government would take action to assist the families.
The council chairman, Chief Ajah expressed deep appreciation for the governor’s proactive approach to combating insecurity in the area.
He further assured farmers of the government’s commitment to ensuring their safety, adding that the security posts, when established, are expected to serve as 24-hour security posts to monitor the activities of the hoodlums.
