Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu has officially opened EbonyLife Place London, marking a historic UK expansion for the EbonyLife brand.
The launch event was joined by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who welcomed the opening as a milestone for African and Black cinema in the UK and a celebration of the strong creative relationship between Lagos and London.
Beyond cinema screens dedicated to African storytelling and Black cinema, the UK venue functions as a full creative destination encompassing film, music, art, fashion, and African culinary experiences.
Mayor Sadiq Khan praised the establishment as a “fantastic addition” to Londonās cultural offerings, highlighting how it strengthens the artistic bridge and global distribution footprint for Nollywood and diaspora creators.
Modeled after the luxury lifestyle resort concept in Victoria Island, Lagos, this UK hub serves as EbonyLifeās premier international physical space dedicated to elevating Black narratives on a global stage.
Speaking at the launch, Abudu said the project was driven by the need to create more spaces where audiences could experience Black and African storytelling, according to the BBC.

āI do think there is a younger audience of young people now that just want to see great storytelling.
āWe make great films, and I think we need to create experiences where people can come, and they can see the great work that we do in black cinema, in African cinema,ā she was quoted as saying.
Abudu added that the United Kingdom lacked sufficient venues dedicated to such films, stressing the importance of representation.
