The Kano state Police Command has arrested 61 suspected thugs during the ‘Hawan Daushe’ Durbar as part of Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in the five Emirates of the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Haruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, on Friday.
According to the statement he posted on his personal Facebook page, the suspects were arrested while in possession of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
The statement reads in part, “During the just-concluded Hawan Daushe Durbar that took place at the five Emirates, a total of sixty-one (61) suspected thugs were arrested with dangerous weapons and illicit drugs that wanted to take advantage of the festive period to cause breakdown of law and order and to embark on attacks on innocent citizens.
“Meanwhile, all the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion.
“The Police Command is happy with the clear cooperation of the good people of the state for working together towards preventing whoever and under whatever guise attempts to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the State by taking the advantage of the ongoing Sallah festive period.”
LEADERSHIP gathered that the Police Command had earlier arrested 54 suspects on Thursday in possession of dangerous weapons.
The Police Commissioner, CP Usaini Gumel, urged the public to keep reporting any suspicious movement to the nearest Police Station or through the Kano State Police Command emergency contact phone numbers.
