Ahead of 2O26 Ekiti State governorship election and the 2027 presidential polls, the Ekiti State Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji and President Bola Tinubu for their second terms.
The caucus hinged its decision to back Governor Oyebanji and President Tinubu on the acknowledgement of the giant strides made by them in their respective offices.
The Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Senator Yemi Adaramodu moved the motion for the endorsement of the president and seconded by former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Prof Modupe Adelabu, during the first caucus meeting of the party in the year, held in Iyin Ekiti, citing the president’s fulfillment of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.
The speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye who moved the motion for the endorsement of Oyebanji, seconded by a former lawmaker, Hon. Yemisi Ayokunle, said the action was based on the outstanding performance of Governor Oyebanji across various sectors of the state.
Addressing the gathering, Adaramodu said, “The president’s accomplishments have been well noted and the caucus remains firm in its earlier position, urging him to also run for another term.
“The good things the president is doing have been highlighted and the caucus’ position remains unchanged, he should stand for re-election.
“Both endorsements reflect a strong alignment within the caucus and signal a unified front ahead of the upcoming election season.”
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the Senate spokesman noted that President Tinubu inherited a nation in crisis and he is working hard to bring back the economy to its right position.
“Before Mr President came on board, Nigeria’s economy was in critical condition. Insecurity was at its height, and politics was in the intensive care unit,” he said.
In his remarks, the first civilian governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, stated that the caucus has made itself very clear saying, “We are all in support of the governor contesting for another term in office.
“Everyone is pleased with the work Oyebanji is doing in the state and we believe he should seek re-election. He has our full support as he continues his leadership journey.”
Responding, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the caucus for their support and urged party members to continue welcoming new members into the APC.
