Ekiti State government has said measures to enhance security within the premises of Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado Ekiti, have been implemented.
It also said machinery had been set in motion to improve quality healthcare delivery at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.
To this end, the state government has constituted a 10-member panel of enquiry to investigate the perceived poor attitude of health workers and suggest any other measures to improve services particularly at the Accident & Emergency Department of tertiary health institutions.
The state commissioner for health and human services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, said the committee will be co-chaired by a former commissioner for health in the state, Dr. Femi Thomas and permanent secretary of the State Hospital management Board, Dr. Sunkanmi Alabi.
The committee, Dr. Filani said, is expected to submit an interim report within 72 hours and a comprehensive one within two weeks.
The commissioner, who urged the general public to remain calm and law-abiding, assured that the state government would effectively address all lingering issues, adding that recent incidents of patient/patient relatives’ assault on doctors and other health care workers at the hospital in the discharge of their duties would also be adequately looked into.
