In a bid to reduce transport fares by 50 percent across the state, the Ekiti State government has commenced the deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered-buses to cushion the effect of transportation cost on residents.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji said the deployment of the CNG buses, which coincided with the Independence Day and 30th anniversary celebrations, marked a major step in the government’s move to reduce transport cost for the citizens in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directives.

This is just as the government expressed its resolve to sustain good governance and further development of the state in the second term of the administration to scale up its shared prosperity agenda impacts on the people.

The Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr Oyeniyi Adebayo stated that the next phase would focus particularly on interventions that add value to the economy, improve productivity and respond to the needs and aspirations of our people.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti  at a press conference organised to formally announce the activities lined up for the second-term inauguration ceremony of Governor  Oyebanji, and his deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade  Afuye which will take place on Friday, October 16, 2026, he said Oyebanji has since October 2022  through its Shared Prosperity and Six-pillar Development Agenda implemented projects and programmes aimed at maintaining social order, protecting and assuring the wellbeing of its citizens, and engendering economic development of the state.

This Adebayo said the  administration made it happen through its development agenda which include, governance;  infrastructure and industrialisation; agriculture and rural development;  youth development and job creation;  arts, culture and tourism; and  human capital development.

“The administration has also announced plans to expand rural road development, with a target of delivering up to 1,500 kilometres of roads through various interventions, including collaboration with development partners”.

He said, in choosing the theme “The Good Work Continues”, it is   assurance that the administration will not relent but increase its engagement with all stakeholders, improve on deliverables and ensure every Ekiti citizen feels a heightened impact of our shared prosperity agenda.

Oyebanji added that the state has commenced the process of cutting transport fare by 50 percent through the rollout of 15 CNG buses donated to the state by the Federal Government as part of efforts to promote affordable and accessible public transportation, adding that the state would expand the fleet of vehicles in order to serve the residents better.

Governor Oyebanji who was accompanied by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, at the official flag off of the vehicles at the premises of Ekiti State Transportation Agency in Ado Ekiti , said the government would continue to explore avenues to reduce  the burden of the citizens.
