The senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone, Sam Egwu, yesterday urged Ebonyi State Governor Chief David Umahi to be mindful of his utterances, saying that elections are not won on the altar of violence.

Egwu, the first executive governor of the state, said  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had been and would remain a peaceful party that would always win elections in the state for anchoring its ideology on the welfare of the people.

Senator Egwu who expressed regret over the statement credited to Governor Umahi during the APC rally in 135 Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu local government area of the state, noted that Gov Umahi lacks the competence and moral will to ask him to step down from his senatorial ambition.

It would be recalled that Governor Umahi had called on Senator Egwu to step down from his senatorial race on the basis of fairness, equity and justice.

Egwu who spoke at his country home, Umuebe Ezzamgbo in Ohaukwu local government area of the state described it as unfortunate.

He said; “How can a governor who contested presidential primary and failed woefully, thereafter came down to his zone and snatched a senatorial ticket from a woman be calling on another person from another zone and in a different party to step down?”

Senator Egwu advised Governor Umahi to relinquish his senatorial ambition and return the ticket to Princess Ann Agom Eze who is the rightful owner to avoid the impending disgrace.

He described Umahi’s decision as not only an imposition of his candidature on his party and the people but a violation of the right of Princess Ann Agom Eze as a woman, using his position as the governor.

“Is it not deceitful that the same Governor Umahi who had placed me on a superlative position will turn around to compare me with Nwebonyi”.

“It’s unheard of asking a better Candidate to step down his contest for someone not suitable for the respected position of a senator. The unguided utterances by Governor Umahi is a true manifestation of his pang of confusion.

I can only advise the people of Ebonyi North zone to ignore him.
