Emir Of Hadejia Advocates More Effort Against Drug Abuse

The Emir of Hadejia, His Royal Highness Adamu Abubakar Maje, has called for a more concerted collective effort to combat drug abuse among youths, a problem he described as having become deeply alarming in society.

The Emir made the call while speaking at the inauguration of a recycling plant and an empowerment programme for 708 youths, held in the ancient city of Hadejia.

The monarch expressed deep concern over the rampant increase in drug abuse among young people, attributing the rise in crimes and social vices directly to the problem.

According to him, the war against drug abuse is a moral responsibility that falls upon everyone in society. He stressed that from the government to law enforcement agencies, public and private organisations, civil societies, community leaders, parents, and neighbours, everyone must join hands to save society before it is too late.

“Drug abuse is a cancer that destroys families and futures. It is not enough for the government to act alone. Communities must rise, expose the dealers hiding among us, and support every effort to protect our young ones from falling into this trap,” the Emir declared.

The Emir, however, commended the human capital development and infrastructural strides of Governor Umar Namadi’s administration, which he noted have transformed Jigawa State within a very short period.

In his speech, delivered shortly before commissioning the projects, the Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Malam Umar Namadi, outlined some of the strategies his administration has adopted to tackle youth unemployment. These include numerous skills acquisition training programmes and empowerment packages.

The governor added that agriculture, which has been positioned as the main driver of the state’s economy, has been used to engage thousands of youths, thereby creating jobs and reducing poverty.

“Jigawa is already leading the nation in agricultural mechanisation, having established over 60 farm mechanisation centres and acquired more than 300 tractors and 60 combine harvesters,” Governor Namadi stated.

“Our goal is to transform farming into a lucrative business that can compete with any other profession, making it the first choice for our teeming youth population.”

Governor Namadi also commended the Chief Executive Officer of the recycling company for initiating a project that has multiple positive impacts on society. He promised to support him and other investors by providing the enabling environments their businesses need to thrive.
