The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has suspended the Village Head of Rikadawa in Madobi Local Government Area, Malam Rabi’u Yusuf, over his alleged involvement in a land sale scandal.

The suspension was announced on Wednesday during a hearing conducted by the Kano Emirate Council following complaints brought before the Emirate.

The decision was conveyed through the Waziri of Kano, Alhaji Sa’ad Shehu Gidado, after deliberations on petitions alleging unauthorised sale of farmland belonging to the late District Head of Madobi, Alhaji Sale Musa Kwankwaso.

According to the complaints, the suspended village head and a son of the late district head, Isah Dahiru, were accused of selling portions of the farmland without the knowledge or consent of its owner.

Speaking during the hearing, representatives of the Kano Emirate Council said preliminary investigations indicated that the village head played a role in the disputed transaction. They described the alleged act as a breach of trust and an abuse of the authority vested in traditional title holders by the Emirate.

One of the complainants, Muddasir Dahiru, told the council that he petitioned the Emirate after discovering that portions of the farmland had allegedly been sold to him by Isah Dahiru and the village head without obtaining the approval of the late district head.

The Emirate Council said the suspension would remain in effect pending further investigations into the matter.
