Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, has disbursed N334 million to 6,680 women across the state under his administration’s women empowerment programme.

The governor, who spoke at the disbursement ceremony in Kano, said the initiative was part of deliberate efforts to reduce poverty, improve livelihoods and promote inclusive economic growth.

He disclosed that each beneficiary receives a monthly stipend of N50,000, adding that the number of beneficiaries has increased from 5,200 to 6,680 across the 44 local government areas of the state.

Yusuf described the programme as a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening households and stimulating grassroots economic activities, stressing that it goes beyond financial assistance.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to uplifting the living standards of our people and ensuring that no segment of society is left behind,” he said.

The governor noted that the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which focuses on delivering sustainable economic and social development.

He further revealed that over N800 million had earlier been disbursed under the state’s youth empowerment programme, benefiting more than 5,300 youths, while other interventions targeted widows and vulnerable groups through mass wedding schemes and provision of start-up capital.

Yusuf also said the state government would distribute tricycles to youths to enable them engage in gainful economic activities.

He emphasised the role of women in economic development, describing them as critical stakeholders in building stable families and productive communities.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously to expand their businesses and contribute to the state’s economy.

In her remarks, the commissioner for women affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, commended the governor for sustaining the initiative, noting that it has continued to improve the welfare of women and vulnerable groups in the state.

She said the programme reflects the administration’s commitment to human capital development and social protection.

She further urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds to achieve financial independence.
