Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Osita Ngwu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Senator Okechukwu Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District under the Labour Party (LP).
Ezea reportedly died on Monday, November 18, at the age of 62.
In a condolence message released on Wednesday, Senator Ngwu described the late lawmaker as “a statesman whose life of service, integrity, and dedication left an indelible mark on our nation,” adding that his death was “a monumental loss not only to his family and constituents but to the entire country which benefited immensely from his wisdom, courage, and unwavering commitment to the common good.”
The Enugu West Senator recalled that Ezea’s short but impactful time in the Senate was defined by purposeful and visionary leadership, noting his sponsorship of the bill to establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Adani, and his advocacy for the creation of Adada State, among several other legislative interventions.
“Senator Ezea served with distinction, approaching every responsibility with purpose and sincerity,” Ngwu said. “Whether on the floor of the Senate, in committee engagements, or in his interactions with the public, he exemplified the ideals of leadership rooted in humility, compassion, and patriotism. His voice was one of reason, his actions guided by principle, and his vision always anchored on the progress and unity of our nation.”
Ngwu extended his condolences to Ezea’s family, constituents, colleagues in the National Assembly, and the government and people of Enugu State, stressing that though his colleague’s death is painful, his legacy will live on.
He added, “The Senator may have left this earthly stage, but the impact of his service will endure for generations. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
