A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholder in Kogi State, Hon. Prince Oluwakayode Emmanuel Esyesin, has described the outcome of the just-concluded Area Council elections across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a reaffirmation of the party’s grassroots strength and dominance.
In a statement issued on Monday, Hon. Esyesin congratulated the party’s candidate in Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Mohammed Kasim, who was declared winner.
According to the statement, Kasim defeated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polling 22,165 votes against 17,788 votes.
Esyesin noted that the victory underscored that electoral success is built on strong structures and grassroots support, not just on prominent names.
“In recent times, prominent political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, El-Rufai, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Dino Melaye and Peter Obi have found political alignment within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, the outcome of the FCT elections has shown that electoral strength is not built on personalities alone, but on structure, legacy, grassroots mobilization and the unwavering loyalty of the people.
“The results from the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory send a clear message ahead of the forthcoming presidential race: the ADC’s anticipated surge may not translate into substantial nationwide victories,” he stated.
He added that the PDP’s performance reinforced its position as an organised and nationally entrenched opposition platform capable of mounting a credible challenge in future elections.
Describing the election as more than a local contest, Esyesin said it served as a political barometer, showing that the PDP’s structure remained intact and resilient at the grassroots level.
He commended party candidates, supporters and voters in the FCT for their continued trust in the PDP, noting that the outcome would motivate the party to strengthen its structures nationwide in preparation for future elections.
“The message is clear: the PDP remains strong, relevant and the people’s party,” Esyesin added.
