Everton Sign Arsenal Midfielder Norgaard As Moyes Continues Squad Rebuild

Everton have completed the signing of Danish midfielder Christian Nørgaard from Arsenal on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £7 million, as manager David Moyes continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

The 32-year-old arrives at Goodison Park after a difficult spell at Arsenal, where he made just seven Premier League starts following his £15 million move from Brentford last summer. Nørgaard was absent from the Gunners’ squad for Wednesday’s pre-season friendly against Real Betis, fuelling speculation over his imminent departure.

The experienced midfielder leaves Arsenal after just one season, having previously established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable midfielders during six successful years at Brentford. He captained the Bees and made 196 appearances for the club before his move to north London.

Speaking after completing the transfer, Nørgaard said he was excited by Everton’s ambitions and revealed that discussions with Moyes convinced him to make the switch.

“I was very intrigued by the project after speaking with the manager,” the Denmark international said.

Nørgaard becomes Everton’s third major signing of the summer following the arrivals of midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough for £16.5 million and Chelsea winger Tyrique George in an £18 million deal.

Moyes has been keen to strengthen his squad after the departures of experienced campaigners Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye, while midfielder James Garner is expected to miss the start of the season after undergoing groin surgery.

Everton will begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign at home against Crystal Palace on 22 August, with Nørgaard expected to play a key role in Moyes’ rebuilt midfield.
