A former comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hameed Ali, has called for the establishment of a dedicated alumni endowment fund to strengthen support for his alma mater, Kobi Primary School, Bauchi.
At a meeting of Kobi Primary School Old Pupils Association (KPSOPA) at the school premises in Bauchi, Ali said the reunion aimed to mobilise the old pupils to address the school’s pressing needs and contribute meaningfully to its growth.
He urged the members to work closely with the Bauchi State government to advance the school’s infrastructural and academic development.
Ali also advocated the creation of an alumni fund, noting that collective support would not only enhance the well-being of members but also strengthen the association’s capacity to give back sustainably to its alma mater.
As part of the anniversary, KPSOPA honoured several old boys who have distinguished themselves in national service and professional excellence. They include Nigeria’s late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa; former Vice President Namadi Sambo; immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu; the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwan Sulaiman Adamu; and retired Colonel Hameed Ali.
Others honoured were the Senator representing Bauchi South, Shehu Buba Umar; Dr Bala Wunti; Ambassador Aishatu Laraba Abdullahi; and the Chairman of Bauchi Local Government Area, Hon. Mahmoud Babamaji Abubakar.
LEADERSHIP reports that the association also honoured Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, despite not being an alumnus of the school, in recognition of his developmental strides in Kobi Primary School and the education sector across the state.
In his remarks, the Interim Chairman of KPSOPA, Alhaji Muhammad Dauda, described the reunion as more than a celebration, saying it served as a platform to reconnect, renew their shared purpose, and reinforce their commitment to improving the school.
