A former Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali-Baba, has pledged to prioritise security and development in Yobe State if elected governor in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former police chief stated this after submitting his N50 million expression of interest and nomination forms in Abuja on Monday.

Alkali-Baba said that if elected, his administration would build on the achievements of the current government while addressing key challenges facing the state.

“I have just submitted my nomination form, and I am in the race because I want to continue and improve on where the present governor, who will leave office in 2027, stops.

“I believe I have the passion, credibility, and the required experience to lead the people of Yobe State,” he said.

Alkali-Baba stated that his government would prioritise agriculture, education, healthcare, and job creation, noting that Yobe’s agrarian nature presents opportunities for economic growth.

“We are an agrarian state, and we want to improve the quality of education, agriculture, and healthcare, as well as create employment opportunities for our young people.

“Security is the bedrock of everything we do. Without security, people cannot function effectively, whether as residents or as individuals conducting lawful business,” he said.

The former police chief dismissed claims of a consensus arrangement to nominate the APC candidate for Yobe State.

“If I believed in any consensus, I wouldn’t be here. I have not attended any consensus meeting, nor have I agreed to support anyone. We all chose to be in the APC; nobody forced us. It is about individual choices and aspirations,” he added.
