The Bauchi State Police Command said a suspect, Faruk Malami, has been arrested in connection with the killing.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, CSP Ahmed Wakil in a statement on Friday, said police responded to a distress call in the early morning of 2nd May, 2025, at about 2:03am from a Good Samaritan concerning an incident involving an attack by a group of youths at Fadaman Mada, located behind Government Girls Secondary School, Bauchi.

“They found Mr Isa Muhammad Wabi, a 66-year-old former Chairman of Jama’are LGA, in critical condition due to injuries sustained in the attack.

“He was promptly evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi for urgent medical attention,” CSP Wakil said.

Wakil explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was attacked by the acquaintances of his son, Abdulgafar.

“The investigation suggests that Ahmad Abdulkadir, also known as Abba, and Faruk Malami, referred to as Ajebo, had entered the home around 0300 hours and subsequently conspired to assault Mr. Wabi. He sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck,” the PPRO said.

Police added that one of the suspects, Ajebo, was also found unconscious at the scene, likely due to retaliatory action from an enraged individual.

He was also taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Abdulgafar has been taken into custody for questioning and cooperating with operatives by providing valuable information to the authorities.

The PPRO stressed that a thorough investigation was being conducted to uncover the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has visited the deceased’s house where he extended condolences to the family.

CP Aliyu also assured the family that the Command will diligently investigate the incident to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
