A transport industry expert and consultant in Kaduna, Mr. Ola Sefula Ahmed, has expressed concerns over the lack of progress in Kano Metropolitan Transport Company (KAMETCO) and its partner, Nairaxi Company Limited’s, multibillion investment in the acquisition of 100 buses. Ahmed, who made this known in a statement he shared with journalists in Kaduna, called on relevant authorities to investigate the process and provide updates on the developments underway for the project.

According to Ahmed, an urgent need exists for a suitable and operational mass transit system that is managed using technologies and other digital innovations. He stressed that the continuous absence of an efficient mass transit system in Kano has led to the massive proliferation of tricycles, resulting in traffic congestion and a decline in the security of lives and property.

As an expert in the field, Ahmed also called on the Executive Governor of Kano State to seek support from tech experts who can communicate their activities to Nigerians. He gave an instance of TAP, who made the vision of digitizing Lagos Mass Transit Project a success. He recalled how they trained Lagosians, empowered them with the technical knowledge required, and sensitized the public before implementing the project. Ahmed emphasized that Kano State and its partners must emulate this approach as Kano is a major commercial city in Nigeria, especially in the north, and Nigerians deserve to know what is underway.

In conclusion, Ahmed’s concerns are valid and require urgent attention. The implementation of an efficient and reliable mass transit system in Kano will boost the city’s economic activities and provide a better quality of life for its residents. KAMETCO and its partners must prioritize the project’s success and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure its feasibility.
