The managing director and chief executive of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, Mr. Bello Hassan has urged depositors of failed banks, particularly Heritage Bank, who have not yet received their payments to do the necessary documentation for payment.
He made the call at the NDIC Special Day at the ongoing Enugu International Trade Fair on Wednesday.
The NDIC boss urged the depositors to come forward and provide the necessary documentation supporting ownership of the account, including BVN, and an alternate bank account number for payment of the insured sum.
He further disclosed that claims can be submitted through their website, email, social media platforms, or by visiting any of their zonal offices.
Hassan congratulated the Enugu Chamber of Commerce and Industry for their tireless efforts in organising the annual trade fair.
“The event has become a crucial platform for showcasing innovation, driving economic growth, promoting trade, and attracting investment,” he added.
Hassan reassured all depositors that the NDIC has the financial and operational capacity to fully reimburse all depositors as recoveries are made.
Earlier, the president of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, ECCIMA , Sir Odega Jideonwo called on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to reduce the chances of banks failures.
Sir Jideonwo cited the harrowing experiences by depositors when the banks went under. He cited the Heritage Bank saying that a lot still needs to be done in that direction.
