Falconets Face England In U-20 Women’s World Cup Last-16 Battle

Nigeria’s Falconets will battle England’s Young Lionesses on Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at Stadion Miejski in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.

The last-16 encounter comes after Nigeria secured their knockout-stage place with a resounding 10-1 victory over New Caledonia in their final Group F match.

Moses Aduku’s side finished second behind Spain after losing 2-0 to the European side in their opening match and drawing 0-0 with China PR.

The emphatic victory over New Caledonia, however, provided a timely boost, with Winner Onajite David scoring a hat-trick and Ramotalahi Kareem also getting on the scoresheet.

SL Benfica forward Janet Akekoromowei was among the players who impressed as the Falconets produced a dominant attacking display.

England qualified for the knockout stage after finishing third in Group B behind Brazil. The Young Lionesses drew 1-1 with Canada, defeated Tanzania 5-1 and then lost 2-1 to Brazil in their final group fixture.

England finished above Canada on goals scored after both teams ended the group stage level on points.

Thursday’s winner will advance to the quarter-finals, where they will meet either hosts Poland or Colombia.
