The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed media reports claiming that its chairman, Chief Clement Oba Ehigiator, has been suspended.
In a statement issued yesterday, the FCT publicity secretary of the party, Nwigbo Chukwudi Samuel, described the report as false and urged the public to disregard it.
“Our attention has been drawn to a news making the rounds in the media about the purported suspension of the FCT chairman of ADC, Chief Clement Oba Ehigiator. Honestly, this is a joke taken too far. You are kindly advised to disregard the news,” he said.
Samuel stated that the two persons who signed the suspension notice were not recognised officials acting on behalf of the party leadership.
“Let it be known to the public that the two signatories mentioned in the purported suspension belong to a former ward chairman of ADC in Kabusa, Alfred Asough. Alfred was suspended by more than two-thirds of his executives about three weeks ago with overwhelming support from the ward party members,” he said.
According to him, the suspension of the ward chairman had already been ratified by the party’s executives in the Abuja Municipal Area Council and forwarded to the FCT leadership.
The spokesperson also alleged attempts to create division within the party following disagreements involving supporters of the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe.
“One would think that as an aspirant in the forthcoming election, the first action would be a call for dialogue at least for the sake of the party, but it has been propaganda upon propaganda, causing more division in the party,” he said.
Efforts to reach the senator for comments were not successful as of the time of filing this report.
