Joint Campus Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has resisted the move by some stakeholders in the student body to impose members of the Local Organising Committee on them.

The council claimed that some influential persons within the National Secretariat of the association were trying to subvert due process in a bid to bring in their cronies and associates outside Abuja onboard the LOC of the 2025 NANS Convention.

In a communique issued at the end of NANS/JCC stakeholders’ meeting held last Thursday, signed by Comrade Solomon Atabor, the public relations officer of NANS JCC/FCT stakeholders, explained that it was agreed that NANSJCC FCT must exclusively constitute the LOC for the 2025 NANS Convention slated to hold in Abuja later in the year.

Atabor said, “Based on the tradition of NANS, the JCC of the hosting state is always given the exclusive right to constitute the LOC for the convention. This is because the JCC has a better understanding of the terrain of the state.

“In line with this age-long tradition and wisdom, we have resolved and agreed that any attempt to bring in individuals outside the NANS JCC in FCT to be part of the LOC for the 2025 convention will be met with stiff opposition and roundly rejected.

“We vehemently reject the involvement of outsiders and view it as an attempt to shortchange NANS JCC in FCT of the right to be in full control of the LOC for this year’s convention,” Atabor said.

He said for that to happen, it’ll be better for the venue to be changed rather than the “indignity of denying our rights and privileges.”
