The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS) has commenced the demolition of shops, eateries and other illegal structures in taxi ranks across the capital territory.
The administration commenced the demolition with Area 3 and Banex Junction Taxi Ranks yesterday.
At Banex Junction, taxis were not using them because they had been taken over by miscreants who were using the space to sell hard drugs, adulterated fuel and diesel.

The head of Operations, DRTS, Mrs Deborah Osho who led the team, said the measure was to give room for more taxis to operate within the ranks.
According to her, the demolition will discourage illegal taxi parks across the city on the ground that there was not enough space in the taxi ranks.
She added that the move would also address the menace of “one chance” operators, who took advantage of the illegal parks to perpetuate their evil deeds.

The head of operations pointed out that most of the tax ranks were not being used for taxi operations but serving as criminal hideouts and sale of hard drugs and petroleum products.
Osho explained that the decision to demolish and clear the taxi ranks of all illegal structures was reached after a meeting with transport stakeholders on the need for a cleaner and serene environment in FCT.
