Federal Govt Commited To Women, Youth Development-Eniade

Director-general, Citizenship Leadership and Training Centre, Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr Adesoji Eniade, has expressed the federal government’s commitment to ensuring investment in women and youth towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG:5).

The DG disclosed this on Wednesday at a 3-day workshop organised by the Partnership for Advancing women in Economic Development anchored by the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

He said that the federal government was working with the United Nations and other development agencies to reintroduce volunteerism while urging women to mobilise their children to participate in national cohesion for growth, stability, and development.

In her welcome address, the country director, development Research and Projects Centre, Dr Judith-Ann Walker, who was represented by her director projects, Dr Stanley Ukpai, said that the 3-day workshop is designed to strengthen the capacities of women in business, trade, agriculture, mining, and industries as part of the objectives of the partnership for advancing women in economic development to increase the salience of women’s economic empowerment in Nigeria.

Judith added that it is necessary to continue to strengthen women in Nigeria if the nation is to attain its goal of achieving economic development for Nigerian women.

 

‘This workshop is designed to Increase the salience of women’s economic empowerment with national and state government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDA), Increase the salience of effective policies and programs to advance women’s economic empowerment with donors and national and state government ministries, with a primary focus on women’s empowerment collectives and Increase the salience of women’s economic empowerment amongst civil society and influential leaders and their appetite to support change that might be in opposition to cultural and social norms

 

The workshop is also expected to put the participants to grant application and resource mobilization.
