Peoples Democratic Party Chieftains Defect In Kogi Ward

The political structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Takete Ide/Otafun Ward, Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, suffered a major setback on Sunday as key stakeholders dumped the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the outstanding performance of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Their defection came ahead of a statewide decamping ceremony organised to receive the former governor of the state, Capt. Idris Ichala Wada, who is joining the APC with his supporters from across, slated Monday (Today).

It was gathered that Hon. Kehinde Obadofin, a former PDP Chairman in the ward; Hon. Babatunde Ebiromi, a former Councillor; and Mr. Seun Bakare, the former Youth Leader of the party, led their supporters into the APC in what many described as a significant blow to the opposition.

Speaking at the decamping ceremony, Hon. Obadofin said he was motivated by the achievements of Governor Ododo, which have continued to attract support across the state.

“I cannot campaign against the Governor in 2027. He has done well, and we should all support him to continue beyond 2027,” he stated.

Similarly, Hon. Babatunde Ebiromi said he joined the ruling party with his supporters because of Governor Ododo’s quality leadership.

“Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has turned around the fortunes of the party, and he is consolidating on the good legacies of former Governor Yahaya Bello. I cannot remain in the PDP. I have decided to move to the Progressive family to contribute my quota to the development of our dear state under the leadership of the People’s Governor,” he said.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo; the APC Chairman in Mopamuro Local Government Area, Hon. Charles Abayomi Omoyele; the Ward Chairman, Mr. Olugbayi Meseko; and other leaders of the party in Takete Ide/Otafun Ward.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo thanked the new members for their faith in the All Progressives Congress and the administration of His Excellency Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo, saying the party is ready to accommodate all Kogites.

“I thank the party leadership for their hard work over the years. In this Ward, the All Progressives Congress has never lost any election. It shows that our people believe in the party and we are the only Ward in the entire Yagba Federal Constituency with this enviable record.

“With the coming of these heavyweights, we will even be stronger and we won’t be satisfied until everyone in Takete Ide and Otafun belongs to the All Progressives Congress. We are not selfish, we are only progressive in our thinking.

“The Governor is not saying anything and the opposition is collapsing in the State. He must have learnt this from his political father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His performance is killing the opposition as all Kogites are rallying behind his leadership,” he said.

Mass defections have continued to hit opposition parties across Kogi State as more prominent figures join the APC, further strengthening the ruling party ahead of future political contests.
