The Federal Government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has distributed food and nutrition items to vulnerable groups in Kebbi State.

During the distribution ceremony held on Thursday at Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, the minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Yusuf Tanko-Sununu, disclosed that the occasion was part of proactive measures of President Bola Tinubu to bring succour to the people of Kebbi State.

He said the programme was designed to cushion the effects of floods that affected some farmers as well as those affected by conflicts and other natural disasters.

The minister listed items to be distributed to include rice, beans, millet, fortified food, cooking oil and tomato paste, among others.

He commended President Tinubu for the initiative as well as Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi for his support to the programme.

Tanko-Sununu also explained that apart from the food distribution, medicine had been distributed to hospitals in the state as part of presidential support to patients

Governor Idris said, the programme is under the Presidential Initiative for the Provision of Food and Nutrition Assistance.

He recalled that Kebbi was the first state to endorse Mr President for another tenure and subsequently, other states borrowed a leaf from the initiative.
